Coffee Information

Varietal: Castillo

Process: Honey, fermented with Wine yeast and blackberries

Producer: Jairo Arcila

Geography: Quindio, Colombia

About The Farm
  • This exceptional coffee was grown by Jairo Arcila on his farm, Santa Monica. The cherries underwent a dry anaerobic fermentation for 72 hours with the pulp intact, during which blackberries and wine yeast were added to enhance the coffee's unique flavour profile. Following fermentation, the cherries were pulped and carefully dried on raised beds to achieve the perfect moisture content.
  • This microlot is 100% Castillo, a variety developed by the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros. Known for its higher productivity compared to Caturra, Castillo is also celebrated for its resistance to coffee leaf rust, ensuring consistent and high-quality harvests.

Loverboy / Colombia

The addition of blackberries during fermentation imparts their natural sugars, organic acids, and fruity characteristics into the coffee, amplifying its sweetness and complexity. Wine yeast, commonly used in winemaking, brings precision and control to the fermentation process. It enhances the development of rich, layered flavours by promoting the production of esters and other aromatic compounds. Together, the blackberries and wine yeast work in harmony to create a coffee with vibrant fruit notes and a refined, wine-like quality.

After fermentation, the cherries were pulped and carefully dried on raised beds to achieve the ideal moisture content, ensuring the flavours are locked in and the coffee’s quality is preserved.

Doesn’t taste like coffee.

Too much honey and blueberry added flavor.

WOW! What a coffee!

Every year I look forward to getting my hands on Loverboy from Rosso. And every year this coffee does not disappoint. It’s that perfect blend of fun and funky that makes you realize the full potential of what specialty coffee can be. Prepare to have your tastebuds experience something unlike few other coffees!! What a treat.

Tastes great, smells awful

The coffee tastes wonderful, with a sweet, fermented berry or cherry flesh note that is very winey. It's unique, and I've grown to like it more and more with every cup.

The smell, however, is pungent, to the point where everyone who has been around a brewed cup has complained.

Not same same

The flavour is different than previous years.
More bolder. Not as good as past Loverboy
