About The Farm
  • Papua New Guinea is unique within the global coffee industry, with the majority of its coffee produced by smallholder farmers working plots known locally as “gardens.” These farms typically span just 1–2 hectares, with coffee grown alongside crops and plants that support the needs of the family and community. The country’s many distinct cultures and languages, combined with remote terrain, make sourcing coffee here particularly complex and require strong local relationships and cultural understanding.
  • This coffee is sourced from smallholder producers throughout the Western Highlands. Farmers typically cultivate around 1.5 hectares, with coffee grown alongside other crops, and deliver their cherries for processing. With an average of up to 2,500 coffee trees per hectare, these small farms contribute to the diverse and deeply community-driven coffee landscape that defines Papua New Guinea.

Sundae Drive / Papua New Guinea

Arusha is a traditional Arabica variety that has been cultivated in Papua New Guinea for decades, particularly in the country’s highland growing regions. Originally introduced to PNG alongside other East African varieties, Arusha has adapted well to the island’s high elevations, volcanic soils, and cool climate. In the cup, it can produce a bright, lively profile with floral aromatics, citrus and stone fruit acidity, and a clean, tea-like character, making it a particularly interesting variety within PNG’s diverse coffee landscape.
