About The Farm
  • Nyungwe Washing Station is located in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke District, on the edge of the renowned Nyungwe Forest. Established in 2008 and acquired by RTC in 2012, the station sits at 1,680 meters above sea level and serves 1,047 smallholder farmers across the surrounding valleys. The station’s unique location, where coffee farms meet native rainforest, creates a cooler microclimate that slows cherry maturation and contributes to the region’s complex, expressive cup profiles. Many producers travel by foot or bicycle to one of the station’s collection points before their cherries are delivered for processing.
  • Nyungwe is committed to both quality and sustainability. The station operates a closed water system, treats wastewater before returning it to the environment, and produces organic compost from coffee by-products. A nursery on-site distributes thousands of coffee seedlings each year to support local farmers, who also participate in ongoing agronomy training. With 49 raised drying beds and carefully managed processing, Nyungwe continues to produce coffees that showcase the exceptional potential of Rwanda’s western highlands.
