Plum Luck is vibrant and a little unexpected, where deep black plum richness meets the bright snap of grapefruit. A smooth layer of dark chocolate carries through the finish, grounding the cup in quiet depth. It’s bold, balanced, and just lucky enough to keep you coming back.

About The Farm
  • Alo Coffee was founded by Tamiru, a former university teacher and electrical engineer, who set out to challenge the status quo of Ethiopia’s coffee industry. After years of witnessing inconsistent quality and limited rewards for producers, a turning point came with Ethiopia’s first Cup of Excellence in 2020. Together with his wife, Messi, Tamiru built Alo Coffee with a clear focus on quality. In 2021, their first submission—a lot from their home village of Alo in Bensa—won the Cup of Excellence, establishing them as one of the most exciting producers in Sidama.
  • Once ripe cherries arrive at the station, they are placed on raised African drying beds and dried slowly over approximately 26 days. The cherries are turned regularly to ensure even drying and covered during peak afternoon sun to protect them. After reaching 10–11% moisture, the coffee is sealed in GrainPro and rested in jute bags for a minimum of 45 days before dry milling, preserving clarity, aromatics, and structure in the cup.

Plum Luck / Ethiopia 300g

JARC 74158 is a specialized Ethiopian coffee variety selected in the 1970s by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) for its exceptional resistance to Coffee Berry Disease and its high yield potential. Originating from "mother trees" in the Metu-Bishari forest of the Illubabor zone, it is part of a cataloged series of selections (often referred to by their "74" or "75" prefixes) that provide roasters with a traceable alternative to the generic "Ethiopian Heirloom" label. In the cup, JARC 74158 is celebrated for its dense, high-altitude complexity, typically yielding a heavy stone fruit profile—such as peach and apricot—complemented by delicate purple florals (like lavender or lilac) and a creamy, honey-like sweetness. Because it thrives at extreme elevations (up to 2,400 meters), it has become a staple for award-winning producers in regions like Sidama and Guji, where its clarity and vibrant acidity make it a standout in the specialty market.
