About The Farm
  • Los Laureles represents the work of approximately 30 producers in Santa Bárbara, Honduras. What began as a small family organization in 2015 has grown into a respected collective, now working with some of the region’s most accomplished producers, including multiple Cup of Excellence winners. Under the guidance of Arbey Mejia, the group has steadily elevated quality, focusing on producing smaller volumes of high-tier Fairtrade Organic coffees each harvest.
  • Farmers cultivate varieties such as Parainema, Catuaí, Pacas, Geisha, and Bourbon in the fertile soils of Santa Bárbara, often alongside shade crops like banana and timber. Environmental stewardship is central to their approach, with coffee pulp recycled through vermicompost systems and water from processing recirculated or repurposed. Most producers dry their coffee using solar dryers, with final dry milling completed at Beneficio San Vicente, a benchmark facility in Honduran specialty coffee.

Parainema is a high-performing hybrid variety developed in Honduras by IHCAFE to combine the robust disease resistance of a Sarchimor with the refined cup quality of a specialty Arabica. While it was originally bred to withstand coffee leaf rust and nematodes, it gained international acclaim after winning the 2015 Cup of Excellence, shattering the myth that disease-resistant hybrids couldn't achieve elite flavor profiles. Characterized by its large bean size and a vibrant, tropical flavor profile featuring bright citrus acidity, stone fruit notes, and a silky body, Parainema has become a favorite for farmers looking for a low-risk, high-reward crop that appeals to the specialty market.
